Walk with wildflowers at Mesa Verde
The San Juan/Four Corners Native Plant Society will lead the free wildflower walk, “Wildflowers and Views,” on June 21 on The Knife Edge Trail in Mesa Verde National Park.
The walk’s leaders will be Helen and Wade Newman.

Family Explorers plan their first hike
San Juan Mountains Association will host its first program in the San Juan Family Explorers series from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday.
The inaugural adventure will be a nature walk through Ponderosa forest and riparian habitats at a private Alpaca farm near Dolores. Participants will visit with the farm animals at the end of the hike.
Participants should bring a sack lunch.

Mancos State Park announces programs
Mancos State Park will offer these seven programs:
Park Naturalist Carol Bylsma will lead bird walks at 5:30 p.m. Fridays. She’ll talk about the habits of birds and explain how to identify them by their calls and colors. Participants should bring binoculars and meet at the Vista Trailhead behind the entrance gate.
A trivia bowl and an “Instant melodrama” will take place at 7:30 p.m. Fridays in the amphitheater.
Catching and identifying butterflies will take place at 1 p.m. Saturdays. Bylsma will share her knowledge of these insects. Butterfly nets will be provided. Participants should meet at the Quarry trailhead.
Children will learn about wildlife and wildlife habitats during “Wild Games” at 4 p.m. Saturdays. Children must be accompanied by an adult and should meet at the amphitheater.
A presentation about Colorado’s predators – mountain lions, bears and coyotes – will take place at 7 p.m. Saturdays at the amphitheater. There will be displays of skulls, furs and hides. Participants also will learn how humans can co-exist with these animals.
A nature walk around the lake to learn about birds, wild flowers and the Rockies will take place at 10 a.m. Sundays.
A “Star Party” will take place July 18. Local amateur astronomers will set up telescopes and talk about Colorado’s night skies.
