Chimney Rock Festival to be held June 29, 30
Chimney Rock Interpretive Association will host the Life at Chimney Rock Festival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 29 and 30 at Chimney Rock National Monument, 17 miles west of Pagosa Springs on U.S. Highway 160, then three miles south on Colorado Highway 151.
The festival will include an invitational Native American arts and crafts market, including Native American tacos and fry bread. Family activities and interactive demonstrations will include pottery making, rock art, yucca pounding, corn grounding, fiber spinning, a night-sky demonstration and throwing the hunting spear, known as an atlatl.
Guided tours of the site, including the Chacoan Great House Pueblo, will be available for $12 for adults; $5 for children ages 5-16; and free for children younger than 5.

Nature Studies announces programs
Durango Nature Studies will host these programs:
A fly-fishing workshop will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Nature Center. The cost is $10 for nonmembers and free for members. Fly-fisherman Jake West will talk about bugs, fly-tying and fly-fishing tips.
A full-moon hike under the Strawberry Moon will be held from 8:15 to 10:15 a.m. Sunday at the Burnt Timber Trailhead in Transfer Park Campground. The hike is free for members and $10 for nonmembers.

Native plant society to host hike June 29
The San Juan/Four Corners Native Plant Society will host “Flowers of Echo Basin” on June 29 in the San Juan National Forest, east of Mancos.
Bob Powell and Al Schneider of the society will lead the hike. On this slow-paced trip, participants will make a number of stops along the Echo Basin Loop Road to view a variety of plants. Participants should bring lunch, two liters of water, layers of clothing and top and bottom rain gear.
