Native plant society to host field trip Saturday
The San Juan Four Corners Native Plant Society will host a field trip Saturday at the Big Al Handicap Trail in the San Juan National Forest east of Mancos.
This wildflower walk will be along a handicap-accessible trail in San Juan National Forest. Participants will find many low montane wildflowers.
The trip will be very slow-paced. Participants should bring lunch, two liters of water, layers of clothing and rain gear.

Durango Nursery and Supply, 271 Kaycee Lane, will offer Third Thursdays Ladies Night from 5 to 7 p.m. June 19.
This free event will feature refreshments and discounts on pink things: pink blooming plants and pink items from the retail shop.

Kids nature workshop to be offered Saturday
Durango Nature Studies will host “Kids’ Nature Workshop: Birds, Beaks, & Books” from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Durango Nature Center.
Author and nature educator Garry Pfaffmann will lead the workshop. Parents and kids will learn about flight and design, nest building and camouflage strategies and the bird Olympics relay race.
Kids will use Colorado-specific field guides to learn about local birds and bird behaviors. Workshop participants will receive free entry to the Nature Center, which is open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Cascade Creek hike to take place June 29
San Juan Mountains Association will host a hike along Cascade Creek from 9:30 a.m. to noon June 29.
Participants will learn about wildflower blooms and butterflies. People should meet at the small parking area near the flume on Forest Road 783. Carpooling is encouraged. Participants should bring water, a hat, sunscreen, rain gear and appropriate shoes.
