Cattle Growers group seeking intern

The Colorado Independent Cattle Growers Association Board of Directors is accepting applications for a summer intern.

The internship will last six to eight weeks, with duties culminating at the annual convention.

In previous years, interns have been responsible for everything from creating invitations for the annual convention to drafting press releases for the association. They have the privilege of attending director meetings and working alongside the board to coordinate the convention.

The position largely includes work-from-home opportunities. The intern will be provided with a grant for further education.

This position, called the Joel Franz Memorial Internship, pays tribute to a rancher who believed strongly in educating youths in agriculture.

Applicants need to be 18 years or older by June 1. Applications are available at www.coloica.com and are due May 1.

Bears emerging from hibernation

Bears are emerging from hibernation across the Colorado.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife reminds outdoor recreationists, city residents and rural homeowners to minimize contact with bears for the health and safety of bears and humans.

Tips for outdoor recreationists include making noise while walking or hiking, traveling in a group if possible and paying attention to the surroundings. For more tips, visit http://bit.ly/1XvT35S.

Tips to prevent human/bear conflicts for homeowners include keeping garbage in a well-secured enclosure and putting it out only on the morning of pickup; taking down all bird feeders and not leaving pet food or stock feed outside. For more tips, visit http://bit.ly/1Sg4Cjl.
