Wildlife Museum opens for the summer
The Wildlife Museum at the Durango Fish Hatchery is open for the summer from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday through Sept. 15.
The museum, operated by Colorado Parks and Wildlife, features displays and information about wildlife, habitat and the landscape of Colorado and the Four Corners.
Aztec Ruins to host bird walks
Cathie Sandell, a birder with 35 years’ experience, will guide bird walks at 8 a.m. Sunday and May 26 at the Aztec Ruins Visitor Center, 84 Road 2900 in Aztec.
The walks will go through the Aztec Ruins site and along the river.

FireWise offers chipper rental for fire mitigation
FireWise of Southwest Colorado is offering a Chipper Rental Rebate Program for residents needing to reduce the slash from wildfire fuels on private lands in La Plata and Archuleta counties.
The program will reimburse residents the lesser of $100 per day, 50 percent of the chipper rental cost or 50 percent of the cost to have a mitigation company provide the chipping services. The program is valid through Sept. 30 or until funds are expended.
