Easier to go elsewhere with parking

So the city of Durango has once again decided there is no need for a large parking structure in our downtown. It is no wonder the merchants in town are complaining about their bottom line. If we local out-of-towners cannot find a place to park, it’s easier to go to the big-box stores.

The city is going to reduce the parking spaces on East Third Avenue by about 20 spaces. The small parking lot at 1043 Main Ave. is up for sale and the big hole across from Gazpacho’s restaurant, which would have been a great place for a four-level parking garage, is now going to be two more hotels.

How many parking spaces have we lost to those ugly bump-outs on Main? It’s time the city and the elected city councilors stopped trying to put 10 pounds of potatoes into a 5-pound bag.
