Residents of East Third Avenue called on Durango City Council to help with traffic safety concerns along the Boulevard Tuesday.
The residents would like four radar speed signs. One near the Mason Center, one near the Smiley Building, and two on the 400 block of Third Avenue, Brie Stahnke told councilors.
Petitions for signs were turned in February, but the city has not given the neighbors a date for when the signs might be available, she said.
“It’s on the list to be installed. ... We just work our way down the list with the budget we have,” City Manager Ron LeBlanc said.
The residents would also like to see a multi-way stop at Tenth Street and Third Avenue.
A traffic study did not warrant a stop sign at this intersection, but it would make the corridor safer, Stahnke said.
East Third Avenue and Florida Road is also still a major concern. A head-on collision there on Friday underscores the need for change, Karen Anesi told councilors.
“That intersection is not safe. What are you waiting for, somebody to die?” Mike Todt asked.
