Durango School District 9-R will have limited hours during the summer starting June 6.

The administration building will be open to the public from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

The Durango Adult Education Center will offer a math GED intensive session from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. June 6-30.

Classes will cover basic algebra, geometry, probability, fractions, decimals and percentages.

Classes offer small class instruction, weekly assessments to chart progress, practice tests and test-taking tips. A free daily lunch will be provided.

The math GED test will be offered July 1.

The fifth-grade students will show their exhibition projects from 10 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Talent show rehearsal will be held from 2:50 to 4 p.m. Wednesday. The performance will be at 1 p.m. June 1.

Riverview Elementary School will hold its Fifth Grade Talent Show at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the Riverview Gymnasium.

This annual event features students playing instruments, singing, dancing and performing a variety of other talents.

Riverview families, students and other community members are welcome to attend.

The Garden Project of Southwest Colorado will offer Junior Gardeners Summer Camp.

The outdoor summer camp will include weekly local guest experts covering topics from gardening, cooking, pollinators, compost, art and more.

Session 1 will be held July 11-15. Session 2 will be July 18-22. Session 3 will be July 25-29.

The camp will meet from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Needham Elementary School Garden.

Cost is $200 per week. Unlimited scholarships are available.

There will be treats, door prizes and outdoor games. Teens will have a chance to sign up for the Summer Reading Program.

El Pomar, a foundation dedicated to promoting the well-being of Colorado’s people, has given $100,000 to Fort Lewis College’s Geosciences, Physics and Engineering Hall.

The hall will greatly enhance the educational and research opportunities for the college and the community.

El Pomar’s funding will support FLC students seeking to unlock the mysteries of the Earth, such as Joseph Mason, a 2016 geology graduate.

Mason’s research was focused on discovering what moved the massive Equity Block near Creede. The Equity Block is a section of rock that formed after the eruption of several massive volcanoes around 27 million years ago.
