District 9-R registration to be held Aug. 14

All Durango School District 9-R schools will hold registration for the 2014-15 school year from noon to 8 p.m. Aug. 14.

Parents will be asked for their child’s birth certificate, immunization information and a utility bill to show proof of residency.

Bayfield preschool accepting enrollment

Bayfield Early Education Programs has openings for the 2014-15 school term.

Three- and 4-year-olds are eligible for preschool. All children must be potty trained to attend.

For children who have educational risk factors and will be attending kindergarten the next year, Colorado Preschool Program slots are available. Developmental screenings for CPP applicants will be administered Friday at the school.

There is a sliding scale for tuition, and scholarships and bartering also are available for qualifying families. For more information, call 884-7137.

Parents may pick up an application from the school at 645 Fox Farm Circle or access it on the website, www.beeppreschool.org.

Miller football practice to start Aug. 11

Miller Middle School will start football practice for the 2014 season at 3:45 p.m. Aug. 11.

Players will meet at the football field bleachers and should bring T-shirts, shorts and cleats. All other equipment will be provided by Miller Middle School.

All players are required to have a Miller Blue Card before they are allowed to participate. Blue Cards can only be issued at the Miller front office, after parent/guardian permission, physical form, insurance and athletic code are filled out by the parent/guardian and doctor.

Fall sports, activities to begin at DHS

To participate in Durango High School fall sports and activities, students must obtain a Red Card.

To receive a card, participants must provide a completed physical/conduct form, completed medical consent form and participation fee to the Activities Office. The Activities Office will accept paperwork and participation fees for Red Cards from July 29 to Aug. 1 and Aug. 6 to Aug. 8.

Fees for 9-R students are:

Individuals are $75.

An individual cap is set at $150.

A family cap is set at $200.

Fees for a non-9-R students:

Individuals are $112.50.

An individual cap is set at $225.

A family cap is set at $300.

Athletes/participants should be prepared to pay the fee when they pick up their cards. Students will not be eligible for participation until fees have been paid. Financial hardship should not be a barrier to participation.

Fall sports and band at DHS will begin on these dates:

Band Camp will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 11 to Aug. 15 in the band room and on the practice field. For more information, email Reed. Attendance all five days is required.
