Durango School District 9-R will host a meeting about graduation guidelines at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Durango High School library.

New graduation requirements that will go into effect for the class of 2020 will be discussed.

Parents of incoming DHS freshman (current eighth-graders) as well as the entire community are invited to attend.

The Durango Adult Education Center will hold its GED graduation ceremony at 6 p.m. May 25 at the Durango Public Library, 1900 East Third Ave.

The commencement speaker will be Gabriella Perky, a 2009 GED graduate and graduate of Fort Lewis College with a degree in business management.

The mission of the Durango Education Center is to fill educational gaps by equipping adults, children and families with the skills and knowledge necessary for 21st-century careers, post-secondary education, and social and economic mobility.

The Durango High School French Club will be holding a garage sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in the DHS parking lot.

Proceeds from the sale will help the club’s members travel this summer.

The Ignacio FFA Chapter will hold its biannual Rocky Mountain Oyster and Catfish Fry from 5:30 to 11 p.m. Saturday at the Spring Creek Hall. The cost for the dinner and dance is $15 and $10 for children younger than 10. The cost for the dance only is $5 per person.

There will be music by Wild Country and a pie auction. The menu will include Rocky Mountain oysters, catfish, coleslaw, beans, rolls, dessert, tea and lemonade.

Proceeds will benefit the Ignacio FFA Chapter. This is a tobacco and alcohol free event.

The Senior Celebration will be held Tuesday from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the DoubleTree Hotel. Families, friends and community members are encouraged to attend this event, which is designed to recognize the contributions and support the AHS Class of 2016 has received from our community.

Local organizations will present scholarships, and the school will present the Senior Celebration book, a full-color keepsake that features each graduate’s high school highlights and future plans.

There will be light appetizers and a cash bar. Seniors will receive caps and gowns and graduation ceremony tickets.
