Animas High School announces programs:
AHS is a tuition-free public charter school that prepares all students for college and post-secondary success by creating critical thinkers and engaged students through an innovative project-based curriculum. Enrollment for the 2016-17 school year will open Jan. 4. All families with students who will be entering ninth, 10th or 11th grade next fall are invited to complete an Intent to Enroll form. If there are more students who complete the form than available spots for a particular grade, AHS will hold a lottery March 18. All interested families are encouraged to visit the school. Student Shadow Days will begin Jan. 14, and will be held every Thursday through March 17. AHS information nights will be held on campus and at various other venues throughout the enrollment season. AHS will be closed for winter break through Jan. 3. Classes will resume Jan. 4.
Mountain Middle School to begin enrollment period
Enrollment for next year’s Mountain Middle School sixth, seventh, and eighth grades is open from Jan. 4 to Feb. 29.
The lottery will take place March 2.

Early Childhood Council offers two trainings
The Early Childhood Council of La Plata County, in collaboration with Southwest Colorado Child Care Resource & Referral, will offer these trainings at the Early Childhood Council Training Center in Durango.
“Medication Administration” will be held from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Jan. 23. The cost is $40.
“Universal Precautions” will be held from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Jan. 23. The cost is $15.

Law enforcement academy names 10 graduates
Southwest Colorado Community College’s Southwest Regional Law Enforcement Academy graduated 10 cadets during a ceremony held at the Durango Public Library.
Upon graduation, cadets are equipped to take Colorado’s Peace Officer Standards and Training Certification exam. Academy cadets have a 98 percent passage rate on the POST exam.
Of the 10 cadets that graduated, five already have been placed with local law enforcement agencies including: Bayfield Police Department, Durango Police Department, La Plata County Sheriff’s Department and the Cortez Police Department.
The graduates are Matthew Beckman, Scott Blakely, Courtney Cannon, John Flanagan, Zachery Green, Jacob Harris, Joseph Hochanadel, Brent Jarmon, Cherrie Laner and Dawnmarie Lawson. A certificate also was awarded to Kate Kennedy from a previous class.
Special awards went to Blakely for top shooter, Jarmon for top driver, Flanagan for academic excellence and Beckman and Blakely for outstanding leadership.
