Social work program announces graduates
The Graduate School of Social Work at the University of Denver recently conferred master’s degrees for 22 graduates of the Four Corners Master of Social Work in Durango.
La Plata County graduates are: Rachel Alber, Jennifer Berkman, Caitlin Delich, Emily Campbell, Dwight Kasuse, Erica Keter, Gina Kramer, Britney Meiers, Megan Roundy, Jeremiah Scott, Scott Smith, Jason St. Mary, Melinda Rousset, Christopher Taylor, Jennifer Turner and Maria Vaughn. The Dean Catherine F. Alter Merit Award was presented to Turner.
Operated in partnership with the Colorado Department of Human Services, Fort Lewis College, Southwest Colorado Community College and Four Corners community agencies, the program enables students to earn the MSW degree in or near their home communities.
Through a cooperative degree program, FLC undergraduates majoring in anthropology, psychology or sociology can earn both their Bachelor of Arts and Master of Social Work degrees in five years, instead of the usual six.

Southwest Studies hosts Ph.D. candidate
Center of Southwest Studies at Fort Lewis College announces that it has named University of Colorado doctoral candidate Sara A. Porterfield to its fellowship in Southwestern history.
The fellowship is a collaborative effort between the center and the graduate program in the history department at the University of Colorado at Boulder.
Porterfield will spend the 2014-2015 academic year in residence at the center performing dissertation research and writing in addition to teaching in the college’s department of history.
Doctoral fellows are encouraged to contribute original research during their tenure at the center and to participate in the academic life of FLC through public presentations of research in progress and attendance at college functions.
