Christian school announces awards
Columbine Christian School congratulates October Character Award winners Austin Brown, MaKenna Coleman, Gavin Deffenbaugh, Braydon Lappin and Sam Self.
October’s character trait was honor, defined as showing value, dignity and high respect for people and property. The school is a kindergarten to eighth-grade private Christian school that focuses on outdoor education and individualized learning, and accepts students from all faith backgrounds.

Grace congratulates Mary Grace Snyder
Grace Preparatory Academy congratulates 10th-grader Mary Grace Snyder, who was a part of the Durango High School marching band that went to the state competition Oct. 25.
Durango FFA earns medals at competition
Winners of the National FFA Agronomy Career Development Events were announced and the 2013 Durango FFA Agronomy team earned a bronze ranking in the national competition after taking first place at the State Competition in June.
As individuals, participants Shantell Smith and Reyetta Hubbs achieved silver rankings, and Desiree Little achieved a bronze ranking. These students worked through almost nine hours of competition to claim their place in the top 10 percent of students in the nation.
The National FFA Agronomy event is a competitive event that allows students to apply classroom knowledge to real-life situations. Participants’ knowledge of agronomic sciences was tested through several levels of competition, including developing solutions for problematic scenarios; identification of seeds, insects, soil and crops; and other management practices. The event was held in conjunction with the 86th National FFA Convention & Expo in Louisville, Ky.

Franklin Harvey named to dean’s list
Berklee College of Music announces that Franklin Harvey of Bayfield has earned placement on the dean’s list for the summer semester of the 2013 academic year.
To be eligible for this honor, a full-time student must achieve a grade point average of 3.4 or above; a part-time student must achieve a grade point average of 3.6 or above.
