Columbine students learn about plants

Students in kindergarten through fifth grade at Columbine Christian School went on a field trip to Native Roots to learn more about the native plants that grow in Durango.

They learned how to identify and differentiate between different types of leaves and seeds. Native Roots donated to the students a Red Lake Currant bush and a Josta Gooseberry bush, which were then planted in the school garden.

FLC names locals as resident assistants

Each year, Fort Lewis College chooses a group of highly motivated students to serve as resident assistants.

Resident assistants are student staff members who live on a floor in a college residence hall to serve as primary resources for information and assistance. The objectives of resident assistants are to exhibit a concern for others and relate in a positive manner to the students. They are responsible for creating a living environment that is conducive to the academic mission of the college, maintaining the safety of the facility and assisting students in their college experiences.

These local students will serve as resident assistants:

Rachel Faught of Cortez.

Jacob Branch-Boyle of Hesperus.

Allison Kruchell of Durango.
