Durango native graduates from Ithaca College in N.Y.

Taylor Graham recently graduated from Ithaca College’s School of Communications with a degree in emerging media.

The curriculum at Ithaca focuses on blending liberal arts and professional study. In New York’s Finger Lakes region, the college is home to about 6,000 undergraduate students.

Stillwater Music offers Youth Blues Camp

Stillwater Music’s Youth Blues Camp, featuring local musician Kirk James, will be held from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Aug. 8-12.

The recommended age range is 11 to 18, and students should be at an intermediate or advanced skill level. The focus of the program will be learning to play and improvise the blues, as well as spotlighting a variety of blues styles, famous artists and the history of the genre.

As a bonus, the camp will collaborate on several songs with Spot On, the Durango Arts Center’s summer vocal performance class for young people.

The camp will culminate in a performance with Spot On and the Kirk James Blues Band at 7 p.m. Aug. 12 at the arts center.

Tuition for the program is $205.

Students can register for summer band classes

A second session of summer band classes for elementary and middle/high school students with Stillwater Music is now open for registration.

Students will learn theory, harmony, improvisation and more as they rehearse tunes in a variety of styles.

The cost of the session is $170.
