Know Your Dough, a nonprofit that provides financial wellness programs for local youth and young adults, is hosting a program this week at Mancos High School for 11th-graders.
During the week of April 18, the nonprofit will teach 11th-graders at Bayfield High School.
The program is linked to the Colorado Academic Standards for personal finances, which is included in state-mandated assessments.

Ignacio Elementary School announces registration for incoming kindergarten students for the 2016-17 school year.
The school will host a visit for Southern Ute Head Start preschool students at 10 a.m. April 20. All other kindergarten-age students and their parents are also welcome to attend at this time.
Placement testing will take place from 8 a.m. to noon May 23 and from noon to 4 p.m. May 24 at the school for students enrolling in kindergarten for the 2016-17 school year.
The school will register kindergarten students during May. Registration packets are available for pickup. Parents and guardians must bring the child’s birth certificate and immunization information when they are enrolling their child.

Todd Macon’s sixth-grade humanities students will host “Rise and Demise: Pre-Columbian Civilizations,” an exhibition of learning at Mountain Middle School from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
Students will present various projects that display defining characteristics of Pre-Columbian civilizations, specifically the Maya, Inca, Aztec and ancestral Puebloans.
The exhibition will feature 3-D printed replicas of famous archaeological sites, Google Earth virtual tours, student-produced documentaries and a kinetic “solar aligner” demonstrating Chacoan archaeoastronomy.
Through these projects, students have defined what factors lead to the rise and fall of civilizations and have asked if this civilization shares a similar fate.
The Durango Education Foundation invites everyone – community members, students, teachers, parents, administrators – to recognize outstanding teachers and staff members in Durango School District 9-R whose work has a positive impact on students.
All nominees receive recognition, and winners will receive prizes sponsored by DEF, The Jewelry Works, Maria’s Bookshop and others. The nomination forms must be into DEF by April 15, via postal mail or email.

Registration for Stillwater Music’s 2016 summer music program is now open for kids and adults of all ages.
Classes will start June 6 and include a variety of one-week camps and ongoing classes for everyone regardless of their musical experience.
Camps for kids include introductory percussion, steel drum band, sound engineering, ukulele ensemble, theory and improvisation and blues camp with Kirk James. Weekly band classes for elementary, middle and high school kids will run throughout the summer.
Community classes for adults and youths 11 and older include community samba band, community percussion band, theory and improvisation workshop and songwriting with Robby Overfield.
Adult offerings include a dozen bands playing music in styles ranging from rock, pop, funk and jazz to Americana, blues and an a cappella vocal ensemble.
Stillwater Music’s unique, hands-on approach to teaching music gets students playing music together as a group immediately to get them engaged and having fun right out of the gate.

World Heritage Student Exchange Programs is looking for American families to host high school students from Spain.
All of these students have received scholarships through a partnership with the Amancio Ortega Foundation in Spain. The foundation’s goal is to bring Spanish scholarship students to the U.S. The foundation screens and selects 100 students who have passed the academic qualifications and provides a full scholarship for them to study in the U.S. for one academic year.

The John and Sophie Ottens Foundation recently provided a commitment for an additional $400,000 in scholarship support for Native American students at the University of Denver’s Four Corners Master of Social Work Program, based in Durango.
The foundation established the scholarship fund in 2012, and the additional gift will be used to support recruitment and retention of Native students.
The Four Corners MSW program enables Four Corners residents to earn a master’s degree in or near their home communities. Because about 25 percent of Four Corners students come from the area’s many Native tribes, the curriculum includes two specialized courses on Native social work, both taught by Native faculty.
A Native advisory council is among the community partners providing guidance to the program.

Durango School District 9-R needs 30 to 40 volunteers for its third annual Keys to High School Success … and Beyond! conference for eighth-grade students who are about to transition to high school.
The students will explore topics around healthy relationships, positive self-image and advocacy. Through interactive workshops, the students will gain skills, which are delivered in an academic setting and align with state health standards.
Volunteers are needed to help with the conference, which will be held from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. May 5.
