Documentary to be screened
The documentary “Most Likely to Succeed” will be screened at 7 p.m. Wednesday Nov. 4 at the Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College.
The screening is a collaboration between Mountain Middle School, Durango School District 9-R, Fort Lewis College, and Animas High School. A panel of education professionals will lead a discussion about 21st-century learning and educational choice.
Tickets are available through any of the four participating sponsors. Doors will open at 6:45 p.m. Tickets are free, but donations will be accepted.

DHS reschedules talk with principal
Durango High School’s November “Conversation with the Principal” has been rescheduled to Nov. 11.
The time has changed to 8:30-9:30 a.m.

Florida Mesa Elementary School third-graders and advanced orchestra students will honor American veterans with a special performance at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the school gym.
Needham to sell local coupon books
Needham Elementary School is taking orders for the 2016 Be Local Coupon Book.
The books are $20 each. People can order them through a Needham student or at the Needham school office through Nov. 20. Payment at the time of the order is required. Books will be available for pickup during first week in December.

College presentation invites Hispanics
Hispanic presenters will speak about their experiences growing up in the area at “Towns United in Education: Stories, Struggles and Successes” from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 14 at Ignacio Middle School, 222 County Road 320, Ignacio.
People will receive information about the services available in each community for Hispanic families and learn how to enroll in college, including information about available post-secondary options, financial aid and more.

Animas High School to elect director
AHS is adding a parent-elected director. A job description including timeline for completing applications, mandatory meeting requirements and how the election process will be completed is available at http://animashighschool.com/parent-elected-director-ped-letter.
This new position is open to anyone in the community. People do not have to be a parent to run.
AHS is seeking a director experienced in financials, facilities and/or development.
On average each board member will spend three to six hours per week on board work, attend a monthly board meeting and key AHS events and lead at least one committee.
Applications are due by 3 p.m. Nov. 11 at AHS. Hard copies can be turned in to the main office, and digital copies can be emailed to Dusty Grannis at tech@animashighschool.com.
Interested candidates must attend a mandatory board of directors meeting Nov. 11 for orientation. Parents are encouraged to attend the meeting to ask questions and hear from candidates to help in their decision-making process.
Election ballots will be sent home with students Nov. 13 and are due by 3 p.m. Dec. 7.
