Adventure Base Camp available in Cortez
Adventure Base Camp for students ages 9-12 will be offered as part of the Summer Creative Camps at Cortez Cultural Center and Hawkins Preserve.
Students will experience Native American Day, Under the Green Roof and Back in Time Archaeology, plants and animals, camp crafts and a hiking and swimming day.

Animas High School to hold orientation in August
Animas High School’s main office is closed for the summer. The school’s summer switchboard will handle all inquires and messages. Call the school at 247-2474.
Parents should plan to attend mandatory Parent Orientation Nights in August with their son or daughter. During this event, parents will meet AHS faculty and staff members, learn about the College Counseling Department and curriculum, review AHS policies and procedures and more.
Parents who have more than one student at AHS, should attend each appropriate event as some information will be grade-specific.
The schedule is: ninth grade, 5:30-7:30 p.m. Aug. 6; 10th grade, 5:30-7:30 p.m. Aug. 8; 11th grade, 5:30-7:30 p.m. Aug. 13; 12th grade: 5:30-7:30 p.m. Aug. 15.
James Smith becomes member of honor society
James Eric Smith of Marvel has accepted membership in The National Society of Collegiate Scholars.
The society is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies and is the nation’s only interdisciplinary honors organization for first-year and second-year college students.
Membership is by invitation only, based on grade-point average and class standing.

Chantel Campbell named to college’s honor roll
Seward County Community College/Area Technical School, in Liberal, Kan., announces that Chantel Campbell of Durango has been named to its president’s honor roll.
Students who complete at least 15 credit hours in courses numbered 100 and above and maintain a grade-point average of 4.0 are eligible for the president’s honor roll.
Jenna Mulligan named to dean’s list
Jenna Mulligan, a resident of Durango, has earned placement on the Gonzaga University dean’s list for spring semester 2013.
Students must earn a 3.5 to 3.69 grade-point average to be listed.

Lorena Hutton, a resident of Bayfield, has earned placement on the Gonzaga University president’s list for spring semester 2013.
