Southwest Colorado Community College, 701 Camino del Rio, has opened the East Campus Panther Student Pantry.
Any current SCCC student enrolled with a minimum of one credit hour can receive food or hygiene products from the pantry, up to six nonperishable food items and one hygiene item per week. The pantry will be open from 1 to 3 p.m. every Monday and Thursday when school is in session. It is located in room 219 on the East Campus.
The West Campus in Mancos opened a student pantry in February.
Food donations from the community can be dropped off in the campus Go!Zone.

Colorado parents and caregivers have free access to early literacy learning tips for children from babies to preschool age.
The free app, called “CO Play & Learn,” was created by Colorado librarians through a grant from the Boulder Library Foundation and financial support from numerous libraries. Cooperating Libraries in Consortium includes the Pine River Library.
The app is available for free download for iOS and Android devices through the iTunes store and Google Play.

Mountain Middle School will offer an enrichment program for home-schooling students beginning in August for students in grades six to eight.
The “Mountain Options” program will be designed to support parents who choose to educate their children at home while having access to the school’s enrichment opportunities.
Enrollment will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.

Todd Macon’s sixth-grade humanities students at Mountain Middle School will host “Poetry Cafe: Voice and Power,” a night of serving poetry and performances, from 6 to 8 p.m. May 18 at the Henry Strater Theatre.
Using decorated “poetry delivery tubes,” students will act as hosts, waiters, busser readers and cooks to serve poetry to their guests from a menu of their own creation. Sixth-graders will then perform original and popular poetry on stage.
To prepare for this exhibition, students have analyzed poetry and studied poetic techniques and devices such as imagery, metaphor, simile, symbolism, personification, rhyme scheme, mood and tone, alliteration and irony.
“Shattered Constellations” is an original production by the upperclassmen of Durango High School Troupe 1096.
The production was crafted using personal experiences to create fictional stories, which explore the darkness of human nature.
Directed by Ben Mattson and Erin O’Connor, the show is made up of a series of vignettes, where metaphoric patients fight against their darkness to find light, connection and love.
Show dates are Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The shows will start at 7 p.m. at the DHS auditorium, 2390 Main Ave. Tickets are $10 for the general public and $5 for students.

The Animas Booster Club will host Animas Valley Elementary School’s first Fun Run on Friday.
Students will be run a course on the school campus that will include obstacles and hurdles and even a portion that allows them to run through the school.
Students are collecting pledges for the number of laps that they hope to cover. This fundraiser benefits all students at Animas Valley.
Fort Lewis Mesa Elementary School’s Parent Teacher Organization will meet at 3 p.m. Tuesday followed by the Student Accountability Committee at 4:30 p.m.
Both meetings will be held in the conference room at the school.
