Parks, wildlife seeking paid intern
Colorado Parks & Wildlife is seeking a paid intern for a summer part-time position to help with outdoor education and volunteer programs in Durango.
Applicants must be 18 to 24 years old and should have a background in biology or natural resources and a strong desire to work with the public.
The intern will work two to three days a week, including Saturdays, at the Durango fish hatchery wildlife museum. Some work also will be done at state parks in southwest Colorado. The application deadline is Friday.

Social work licensure course available
A social work licensure preparation course will take place from 4 to 9 p.m. June 27 and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 28 at the Commons Building, Room 219, 701 Camino del Rio.
This course will prepare social workers for the licensed clinical social worker and advanced generalist examinations. The cost is $275.
The course includes flash cards, study guide, cram session and dinner Friday night and Saturday snacks.
Haley Figueroa, LCSW, will teach the course.

eSchool offering summer school credit
The Southwest Colorado eSchool will offer a summer school credit recovery program for students in grades 7 to 12.
The program will run from June 2 to July 11. Courses are self-paced and entirely online with teacher support. Students can take up to two courses, and the cost is $150 per course. This is a great option for students who are self-motivated and can or need to work independently.

Florida Mesa announces events
Florida Mesa Elementary School announces these events:
The fifth-grade dinner/dance will be held Friday. The theme this year is “Masquerade Ball.” Hors d’oeuvres will be served from 5 to 6:30 p.m. The music presentation and dance will begin at 6:30 p.m. There will be a DJ and dance immediately after the presentations. The cost is $5 per person.
The Mesa Madness Garage Sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in the school parking lot, 216 Colorado Highway 172. The event will feature a kids craft booth and more than 20 families selling. To reserve a spot, call 247-2450.
Durango district to host round-table meeting
Durango School District 9-R Superintendent Dan Snowberger will host the final round-table meeting of the school year at 6 p.m. Monday in the board room in the district office, 201 E. 12th St.
Round tables this year have addressed the school budget. The district is seeking direction and input from the community about how to grapple with the downturn in funding and the need to reduce deficit spending.
Snowberger will present the final budget before it goes to the board for approval. Community members are invited to comment.
9-R announces summer school schedule
Durango School District 9-R summer school will take place from June 3 to June 27 at Durango High School, 2390 Main Ave.
Classes will be held Monday to Friday with the exception of the first day of summer school, which is a Tuesday. Daily, the first session will take place from 8 to 10:30 a.m., and the second session will take place from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Classes will include English, math, science and social studies. Students may take only the courses they have previously failed. Students may sign up for only one of the two sessions. If either session is full, the student may be placed in the other summer school session.
A non-refundable fee of $150 is required for the first course and $75 for any additional courses. People should pay for one course at a time. Reduced fees will be available for students on the Free/Reduced Lunch Program. Out-of-district students will pay a non-refundable fee of $300 for the first course and $150 for any additional courses.
A nonrefundable check or money order made out to Durango School District 9-R may be attached to the registration form and returned by May 23 to DHS Counseling Office, 2390 N. Main Ave., Durango, CO 81301.

Needham Elementary School will host its fifth-grade exhibition at 5:30 p.m. May 27 at the school.
Miller Middle to host open house Thursday
Miller Middle School will host its annual open house for fifth-grade students and their parents from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday.
Students and parents will have an opportunity to meet with Miller’s staff members and to learn about Miller’s International Baccalaureate program as well as the other opportunities available to students. The evening will consist of displays and panel discussions addressing various aspects of becoming a Miller Angel.

Park Elementary to host fifth-grade graduation
Park Elementary School will host its fifth-grade graduation from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. May 28, followed by the fifth-grade talent show from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.
Both events will be held at the Park Café.
Miller seventh-grade to show projects
Miller Middle School seventh-graders will present the culmination of their final International Baccalaureate unit of the year called “Healthy Choices and the Human Body Buffet” from 8:45 to 9:30 a.m. Friday and again from 2:45 to 3:30 p.m.
Students will provide food samples and information about beneficial foods for specific human body systems. Presentations will be held in the seventh-grade commons area.

Durango School District 9-R will not have school May 26 in observance of Memorial Day.
The last day of school will be May 29.
Mountain Middle School to host Poetry Café
Mountain Middle School’s sixth-grade humanities class will exhibit a Poetry Café from 6 to 7:30 p.m. May 21 at the Animas City Theater, 128 E. College Drive.
Students will serve poems from an original menu to their guests.
Golf event to benefit Mountain Middle
Registration is open for the third annual Links to Learning Golf Scramble to benefit Mountain Middle School.
The benefit will be held June 1 at Glacier Club. There will be prizes for best ball, closest to pin, plus other challenges. The event will end with an awards reception and silent auction at 4:30 p.m.
The cost is $150, which includes an 18-hole scramble, cart, practice balls, lunch, prizes, awards, the afternoon reception and all gratuities. For $35, nongolfers can attend the awards reception and silent auction. A few hole sponsorships are still available.
