La Plata Medical Society offering scholarships

The La Plata Medical Society is offering three college scholarships for the 2014-15 school year.

Applicants can apply at www.laplatamedicalsociety.org. Three $1,000 scholarships available. The application deadline is July 15.

Applicants should be from La Plata, Archuleta or Montezuma counties, with a desire to return to Southwest Colorado as a health-care provider.

Scholarship recipients will be honored at the annual meeting of the La Plata Medical Society on Sept. 24 at the DoubleTree Hotel, 501 Camino del Rio.

Free breakfast, lunch are available in Ignacio

The Ignacio School District will sponsor a free breakfast and lunch program for children ages 1 to 18 Mondays through Fridays from June 16 to Aug. 15 at Ignacio Elementary School, 85 County Road 320.

Parents may join their children for breakfast and lunch, for $2.50 and $3.50 respectively. Checks and large bills will not be accepted. Meals will not be available July 4.

Breakfast will be held from 7:45 to 8:45 a.m., and lunch will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Animas High School announces events

Animas High School announces these events:

Registration for the 2014-15 school year continues. Students interested in attending AHS can call 247-2474, ext. 2307.

The all-school rafting trip will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mild to Wild, 50 Animas View Drive. The cost is $15 for AHS students. A family potluck will follow from 5 to 7 p.m. at Santa Rita Park.

A campus work day will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. July 8. Animas students, faculty, families and community members are welcome.
