Local students receive recognition

These local students have been recognized as First-Year Scholars for the fall 2014 semester at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley:

Kevin Brinkley of Durango.

Rydell Stottlemyer of Durango.

To be named a First-Year Scholar, students must achieve a grade point average of 3.50 or higher for their first semester at UNC.

Locals initiated into Phi Kappa Phi

These residents were initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest collegiate honor society:

Durango: Nicholas Dungey, Graehme Hilding, Bryanna Natonabah, Ryan Good, Levi Kurlander, Alexa Whalen, Van Snowdon, Naomi Dobbs, Nicole Desouchet, Kalen Dear, Travis Ketelsleger, Robert Wasserman, Christian Belman Juarez and Taylor Graham.

DHS athletes receive award

These are the Colorado High School Activities Association three sport participation award winners for the 2014-2015 school year from Durango High School: Lucas Baken, Katrina Chandler, Sarah Clark, Emily Edwards-Colsman, David Etz, Teagan Garand, Elizabeth Gervais, Elise Gilleland, Alix Gillen, Shilo Gillen, Joshua Hobson, Seth Johnson, Tre’von Martinez, Kaleb McMunn, Quelan Mestas, Luke Napier and Violet Witchel.

DHS students compete in championships

These Durango High School students competed at the State SkillsUSA Championships in Colorado Springs:

First place, Crime Scene Investigation: Justin Marcum, Patrick Cunnion and Zach Clements. They have qualified for the 2015 National SkillsUSA Championships in June in Louisville, Kentucky.

Second place, Architectural Drafting Technology: Mitch Guffey

Second place, Motorcycle Service Technology: Justin Johnson

The following participated but did not place: Tony Vasquez, Carpentry; Madison Hoven, Advertising Design and Job Interview; Justin Marcum, Job Interview; Mathew Shortle, Computer Programming; and Vayle Townsend, Welding.
