Host families sought for exchange students

ASSE International Student Exchange Programs is looking for local families to host boys and girls between the ages of 15 and 18 from a variety of countries.

The exchange students have pocket money for personal expenses and full health, accident and liability insurance.

ASSE students are selected based on academics and personality. Host families can choose their student from a variety of backgrounds, countries and personal interests.

DHS Athletic Department to honor Deawne Maddox

The Durango High School Athletic Department will host a farewell party for Deawne Maddox in recognition of her many years of service from 1 to 4 p.m. July 26.

Sarah Barney earns dean’s list at Pepperdine

Pepperdine University student Sarah Barney, a native of Durango, has been named to the Seaver College dean’s list for the spring 2015 semester.

To earn dean’s list honors, students must be in the upper 10 percent of their class and maintain a 3.5 or better grade-point average.

Seaver College, in Malibu, California, is the undergraduate school for Pepperdine University.

St. Columba School opens registration for all grades

St. Columba School registration is open for students entering kindergarten through eighth-grade.

St. Columba offers a continuum of educational services, from accelerated academic programs to a new academic intervention system. The elementary school now has a student support specialist and two aides to monitor the progress of students who need extra help.

Meet the candidates for DHS theater director

The Durango High School Theater Department is in the process of interviewing applicants for theater director.

The school is seeking comments from community members and invites the public to a forum to meet the applicants at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the library in the high school.

Sadie Geauthreaux named to Ithaca College dean’s list

Sadie Geauthreaux, a theater studies major, was named to the dean’s list in Ithaca College’s School of Humanities and Sciences for the spring 2015 semester.

Ithaca College is in Ithaca, New York.

Emma Zink named to Kansas honor roll

Emma Zink of Durango earned honor roll distinction for the spring 2015 semester at the University of Kansas in Lawrence.

Zink is a student in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Honor roll criteria vary among the university’s academic units. Some schools honor the top 10 percent of students enrolled, some establish a minimum grade-point average and others raise the minimum GPA for each year students are in school. Students must complete a minimum number of credit hours to be considered for the honor roll.
