Childhood conference Sept. in Farmington
Four Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development affiliates are launching the inaugural Four Corners Early Childhood Education Conference, “The Promise of Hope,” on Sept. 11-12 at the Civic Center in Farmington.
Jointly hosted by Arizona ASCD, Colorado ASCD, New Mexico ASCD and Utah ASCD, the conference is offered to preschool and early-childhood educators serving underserved populations in the southwestern United States.
The two-day event is designed for preschool and kindergarten to third-grade educators in both private and public programs.
Doug Reeves, Doug Clements, Mark Hoog and Erik Francis are each slated to headline the program of 36 presenters and 28 sessions, with a focus on early-childhood mathematics and literacy.
Conference registration is $99 and includes a Friday evening keynote and reception, along with a full day of Saturday sessions, including breakfast and lunch. There are built-in opportunities for networking and collaboration.

Lauren Lee honored at Coe College
Lauren Lee earned an athletic letter for outstanding participation on the Coe College women’s soccer team during the 2014-15 academic year.
Lee, a graduate of Sandia Preparatory School, is the daughter of Linda Kier and Hop Lee, who live in Durango. Lee is a third-year letterwinner in women’s soccer. The soccer team is under the direction of second-year head coach Scott Myers. The Kohawks returned to the Iowa Conference Tournament for the first time since 2010.

Riverview Elementary announces fall dates
Riverview Elementary School’s fall check-in day will take place from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday.
The school will accept registration paperwork for new students, confirm information for returning students, share school information and conduct screenings for all incoming kindergarten students.

DHS is collecting participation fees and is issuing red/white cards for fall 2015 athletic/activity participants from 3 to 6 p.m. through Thursday and from Monday to Aug. 12. The deadline for receiving fall sports red cards is Aug. 12. The fee for 9-R students is $100 for individuals; there is a $200 individual cap; and $300 family cap. The fee for non-9-R students is $150 for individuals; there is a $300 individual cap; and a $450 family cap. Participants should be prepared to pay the fee when they pick up their red/white card. Animas High School announces these events:
A Head of School Reception will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 13 at the Powerhouse Science Center, 1333 Camino del Rio. This will be a welcome party for incoming Head of School Sean Woytek from High Tech High in San Diego. Woytek will introduce himself to the community, deliver his State of the School address, field questions and greet students, families and community members. This event is open to the public. Light food and drinks will be available for purchase.
Student orientation for the 2015-16 school year will begin Aug. 24 for ninth-grade, Aug. 25 for 10th-grade and Aug. 26 for 11th- and 12th-grade. The first day of academic classes for all students will be Aug. 27, and parent orientation will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 27.
