Students can prepare for GED science test

The Durango Education Center will offer summer science classes for the GED program.

This four-week session will focus on passing the GED science test in one month.

The session will run from 10 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. Monday to Thursday from June 15 to July 9. The GED science test will be offered July 10. Lunch will be provided daily.

Mountain Middle School’s graduation is coming up

Mountain Middle School announces these events:

All students will be conducting their Transitional Presentations of Learning on Wednesday.

Mountain Middle School’s board of directors will meet at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at the school.

The eighth-grade graduation ceremony will take place at 5 p.m. Thursday at the Fort Lewis College Ballroom.

The last day of school will be Thursday with an early release time of noon.

Kids 8 and older can learn quilting during camp

A quilt camp for children age 8 and older will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. June 22-25 at the Durango Quilt Co., 21516 U.S. Highway 160 west.

Class will include cotton fabric of the participant’s choice for a complete quilt and an instruction book. The camp is limited to six students, and the cost is $95.

Child care providers can attend training

The Early Childhood Council of La Plata County is hosting free Quality Rating Improvement System and Professional Development Information System training for child care directors, teachers and home providers in Southwest Colorado from 9 to 11 a.m. or from 1 to 3 p.m. July 16 at the Early Childhood Council of La Plata County Training Center, 130 Rockpoint Drive, Suite C.

If people travel 70 miles or more (round-trip), they may be eligible for a travel reimbursement. This training will teach participants how to implement the system.

Participants will receive step-by-step handouts and have an opportunity to ask questions and connect with other child care professionals.

Big Picture seniors to graduate Wednesday

Big Picture High School’s graduation will be held at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Rotary Park.

Invention is the game for young scientists

Durango School District 9-R will partner with Durango Maker Lab and IOIO SparkShop to bring out the inner inventor in young scientists.

These new summer camps will keep students learning and engaged with do-it-yourself activities and hands-on labs.

Wednesday is district’s last day of school year

The last day of school for all Durango School District 9-R schools will be Wednesday.

Administration office announces summer hours

The Durango School District 9-R District Office will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Thursday beginning Monday.

The office will be closed Fridays during the summer.

Florida Mesa students to play at field day

Florida Mesa Elementary School will host its field day Wednesday.

Coaches are needed for Girls on the Run

Fort Lewis Mesa Elementary School is seeking coaches for the fall Girls on the Run season.

Kids’ Camp to open registration Aug. 5

Registration for Durango School District 9-R’s Kids’ Camp will begin Aug. 5.

There may be limited space for the first month or two. Capacity at each school will be determined by the number of staff members hired by the time camp begins.

Durango school board will hold meeting June 30

The Durango School District 9-R Board of Education will meet at 5:30 p.m. June 30 in the board room at the 9-R administration building, 201 E. 12th St.
