Somer Morris, a Fort Lewis College biology major from Durango, presented research at the Tamarisk Coalition Conference on riparian restoration in the West in February in Grand Junction.
Morris’ research poster was titled “Shifts in the Structure and Composition of Riparian Vegetation in Response to Sediment Aggradation on the San Juan River.”
Hayley Anderson of Durango was recently initiated into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines.
Anderson, who is pursuing a degree in psychology at Arizona State University, is among about 30,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni to be initiated into Phi Kappa Phi each year. Membership is by invitation and requires nomination and approval by a chapter.

P.E.O. Chapter CS announces that Durango High School student Kimberly Crawford is the 2016 recipient of The Dorothy Gore P.E.O. Scholarship in the amount of $1,000.
Crawford was chosen for outstanding academic achievement, leadership ability and potential, wanting to create positive change and for her passion and dedication to the community. She plans to major in chemical engineering in college.
P.E.O. is a philanthropic educational organization dedicated to celebrating the advancement of women, promoting educational opportunities for women and motivating women to achieve their highest aspirations.
