The Methodist Thrift Shop offers scholarships for graduating seniors based on their church involvement, leadership, community service, extra-curricular activites and personal attributes. Applications are available at the Thrift Shop at 986 E. Second Ave. or at local high school counselor offices. The application deadline is March 15.
The Dorothy Gore Scholarship sponsored by P.E.O. Chapter CS is available to any La Plata County graduating senior girl who has shown academic promise, leadership potential, serves her community and has at least a 3.0 cumulative grade-point average. This $1,000 scholarship honors Dorothy Gore, a retired long time Durango teacher.
All applicants to an academic college are considered although priority is given to applicants to Cottey College, a four-year women's college in Nevada, Missouri, owned by the P.E.O. Sisterhood. Information about Cottey is found online at Cottey College.

ROLLA, Mo. - Missouri University of Science and Technology announces the names of students who made the honor list for the Fall 2017 semester, including Matthew Knickerbocker, a junior majoring in petroleum engineering from Bayfield. To be included on the honor list, students must have carried a minimum of 12 hours and had grade point averages of 3.2 or above out of a possible 4.0. Founded in 1870 as the University of Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy, Missouri University of Science and Technology (Missouri S&T) is a research university of more than 8,800 students and part of the four-campus University of Missouri System.
