Edwards: Switch to renewables to protect lands

In his final State of the State address, Governor Hickenlooper mentioned clean air and water, and outdoor recreation and open space as defining characteristics of life in Colorado.

These beautiful open spaces are valuable and worth preserving, as they keep us healthy and happy. However, President Trump continues to want to reduce the area of national monuments nationwide.

This would enable oil and natural gas companies to drill in the lands that were previously protected. Losing these protected places would be a great disservice to Coloradans, and to all Americans. By now, we know the dangers of dirty energy sources.

If we truly want to protect our national monuments and open spaces, switching to clean, renewable energy is the best possible method.
