Blistering temperatures couldn’t slow down Bayfield’s Eva-Lou Edwards.
She finished first in the girls 3A division of the Pre-State Invite on Thursday in Colorado Springs with a time of 20 minutes flat, according to Bayfield’s first-year head coach Joshua Walton.
“She distanced herself in the first mile from the girl behind her by about one hundred yards and kept pushing herself,” Walton said in a phone interview with The Durango Herald on Thursday night. “Second place ended up more than a minute behind her. She ran well for the conditions.”
Temperatures creeped into the 90s during the event, forcing some racers to quit because of dehydration and heat exhaustion.
