Elect Paul Black for District 3 county commissioner

La Plata County is in need of greater diversity on the Board of County Commissioners, particularly in representing our rural communities. Currently, commissioners are elected at large, meaning urban areas dominate decisions that significantly affect rural land use. This system leaves farmers, ranchers and residents of agricultural areas without adequate representation. Proper and timely land use is a key to their survival.

Rural landowners have unique challenges and needs that differ from those in urban centers. Policies designed for the city often do not apply in the countryside, where land development and agriculture require flexibility and support. Not everyone wants to live in town, and it’s crucial that rural voices are heard when policies affecting their land and livelihoods are being made.

That’s why I support Paul Black for District 3 county commissioner. He is a multigenerational resident with firsthand experience navigating the bureaucratic hurdles involved in permits and projects. He understands the frustrations rural residents face, and he will provide a much-needed voice for our rural communities. Black’s background and understanding of local issues make him the best candidate to advocate for the diverse needs of La Plata County.

We need his leadership on the board to ensure that the interests of rural areas are properly represented.
