I am a local criminal prosecutor. I want to share my experience and why we ought to elect Sean Murray as our next district attorney.
I am speaking on my own personal behalf and not in any way as a representative of any office or agency.
The reality is that DA offices, especially rural ones like ours, pay lower than competitive rates. The few positions that do pay anything of substance are coveted and openings rare. And the compensation does not keep up with the cost of living. This leads to inevitable employee departures.
Take me, for example. I was first hired by our DA office in 2019. But the coveted positions were filled by longtime employees, so I reluctantly left a few years later to seek a job that could support my growing family. I got a job at a firm in Grand Junction, uprooted my family of five and intended to stay there. Then I reapplied to this DA office as soon as one of the higher spots opened up. I am lucky I got the job.
Sean Murray being in leadership was a decisive factor in me returning. He is one of, if not the, most capable trial attorneys and prosecutors around. Maybe that is why Jason Eley wanted Sean Murray as his No. 2 prosecutor.
To retain the best we can in our district attorney office, we should start by electing the best. That is Sean Murray.
