Elected officials have failed to protect us

Through tortured tears, the father of a murdered child in Parkland, Fla., rages, “My job is to keep my daughter safe ... and she took a bullet!”

My mind roars, “It’s not just your job; it’s the job of our government! It’s the job of the men and women we elect and entrust to represent our interests and to protect us from violence.”

And they are failing. They are failing to keep children safe. They have utterly failed to ensure that 17, 3, 33, 26, 10, 15 and too many more kids that went to school to learn and shine came home dead.

What have they done to stop the shootings? To change the outcomes?

Columbine. Red Lake. Sandy Hook. Blacksburg. Aztec. Parkland.

What will they ever do? What will we do? What can I do?
