Republican voters call Trump decisive
WASHINGTON – Republican voters don’t think Donald Trump is likable. They don’t think he’s compassionate. And many don’t consider him particularly honest.
But he’s overwhelmingly viewed as decisive and competent. And that’s what matters most – at least for now – to Republicans.
A new Associated Press-GfK poll finds that 8 in 10 Republican registered voters call Trump very or somewhat decisive. That’s top in the field for the businessman, whose blunt style was featured for years on reality TV. At the same time, it finds much resistance to him from the country at large.
The poll was taken before he called for a ban on Muslims coming into the United States and does not reflect the furor that has turned some leading Republican figures, at least, against him.
Clinton preaches love to Iowa voters
URBANDALE, Iowa – Hillary Clinton is talking a lot about love and kindness these days.
She’s embraced that approach as she grapples with Donald Trump’s prominence in the Republican race. In doing so, she draws an implicit contrast with his tough and sometimes inflammatory rhetoric.
At a town hall meeting, she told people it’s vital to “weed out hate and plant love and kindness.”
And after Trump said he’d block Muslims from entering the country, her campaign quickly churned out a new catch phrase: “Love trumps hate.”
Republicans scoff at the idea of Clinton preaching a gospel of love.
Republican pollster Nicole McCleskey says she thinks most voters see Clinton “as warm and cuddly as a porcupine.”
