This year’s presidential election is extremely disconcerting. Whether you vote Republican or Democratic you are voting for a person who is a liar, cheat and crook. Nothing new there – it’s just more blatant with every passing year. Since the Republican and Democratic parties want to keep America in a two-party system, they don’t allow third-party candidates to enter the debates. The fear-mongers keep people from voting third party by saying it’s a wasted vote. Democracy Now on PBS and on democracynow.org offered time to the Green and Libertarian party candidates to answer a few questions from the debate. Only Jill Stein, Green Party, complied. At least it gave us a chance to see and hear what she had to say.
I have yet to see a debate where the candidates actually answered the questions, put forth their policies, let you know unequivocally where they stood on important issues. We are days away from the election and I still have no idea where either candidate stands on many important issues or what they intend to do to correct problems in America. This last debate asked few really important questions and the candidates gave a quick response that barely covered the question before returning to the mud slinging.
America is in a sad state of decline with important issues and problems, and all the candidates could do is sling mud at each other regardless of the question. Both candidates ignored the moderators, which was disrespectful to the moderators as well as the American people. (I believe the candidate who continues to talk after their time is up should have their mics turned off.)
Democracy is fast disappearing in America. There is no real choice. You have to have millions of dollars to run for office. Corporations and dark money run elections, policies and procedures. Whether a candidate is Republican or Democratic, big money interests are at stake. Many people no longer even bother to vote. It’s a sad state of affairs. The average American loses no matter who wins.
