Electronics account for lion’s share of recycling revenue

The city of Durango now accepts electronics and batteries for recycling every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Durango Recycling Center, 710 Tech Center Drive.

Fees are attached, such as $3 for game stations, $15 for laptops and $5 for microwaves, according to a fee schedule at the city website, durangogov.org.

Electronics fees accounted for 90 percent of the $1,000 in revenue the city collected Saturday, the first day of expanded service at the Recycling Center when the city served 170 patrons, according to Roy Petersen, the operations director for the city.

Noncity residents are charged $1 to drop off their recycling for every 60-gallon container worth of materials.

Aside from electronics, city residents are not charged to drop off recycling there.
