Ignacio resident Ellen Cornelia Dixon Clark, 99, died on Aug. 9, 2014. She would have been 100 years old on Sept. 5.   

She was born Sept. 5, 1914 to Malcolm and Cora Dixon on Crow Mountain in Atkins, Arkansas. She grew up on Crow Mountain.  Ellen attended college at Arkansas Tech College in Russellville where she obtained her bachelors degree in teaching. She married Virgil Boyd Clark in August of 1938 in Plainview, Texas and that is where their three children were born.  The family moved to Eastern New Mexico, and established their life in ranching. Ellen obtained a real estate license, and she was active in local and state politics in the Republican party.  Ellen and Virgil moved to Ignacio in 1978.

Mrs. Clark was preceeded in death by her husband Virgil, all nine of her sisters and brothers. 

She is survived by a son, Ronnie Clark of Lakewood, and daughters Virginia Richmond of Ignacio and Becky Gosney of Keller, Texas, as well as eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Ellen was a member of Ignacio Community Church. She enjoyed attending Sunday morning worship service, as well as well as the Friendship Circle and the Happy Homemakers Extension Club in Ignacio. A graveside service was held at 10 a.m. on August 13, 2014 at Pine River Cemetery in Bayfield.

Her family extends a special "thank you" to those who cared for and loved Ellen, especially Centura Health at home, San Juan Basin Health, Life Care, Hospice, Four Corners Health Care and Dixie Melton and staff.
