I must disagree with Ellen Stein (“
The goal of City Council should be to uphold the will of its constituents. In this regard, I believe the slow, methodical consideration of a $94 million budget is very noble.
The public has already spoken and disagrees with the proposed $300 million budget for the Parks and Recreation Department.
I believe, as was stated in The Durango Herald, there are many more pressing issues than having a video gaming class offered by Parks and Recreation. I do not believe the majority of tourists visiting our area come here to visit the dirty, ill-maintained Rec Center or to take a volleyball class.
The councilors were duly elected by the citizens to make these decisions and should not be governed by committee or department heads, regardless of the amount of experience they have.
