Ellen Stein, The Durango Herald’s and The Journal’s opinion page writer and editor between 2016 and 2018, is serving as the two newspapers’ Opinion Contributor for the November 2024 election. She’ll participate with the Opinion Board Chair in conversations with candidates and issues’ representatives and in determining recommendations.
Stein established a successful editorial advisory board while at the Herald. She has been a development director at KDUR and was a founding member of KSJC, a low power FM station in Silverton. She has had several marketing and communication positions in Southwest Colorado, and a leadership role at the Mountain Studies Institute in Silverton. She was a founding member of La Plata Civic Dialogue, an effort to bridge diverse views in the county.
Stein earned a B.A. from Colorado College and an M.A. in public policy and planning from Tufts University.
