Farmington High School officials on Thursday briefly locked down the school after a photo of a student holding a firearm in a threatening manner toward another student was posted online, according the Farmington Police Department Facebook page.

Additionally, there was a report that shots might have been heard at the school.

The people involved were identified and searched by police officers.

No firearm was found on campus, and the lockdown was lifted at about 1:08 p.m. FPD reported that there was a strong police presence on campus.

Roberto Toboada, public information officer for Farmington Municipal Schools, said the initial call to dispatch was at 12:52 p.m., and the school locked down to follow safety protocol.

A call at 12:54 p.m. reported that gunshots were heard at the school, but by 12:56 p.m., officials attributed the sound to a sign that had broken loose in the wind and hit the side of the building. No shots were fired, Toboada said.

By 12:57 p.m., the FPD Real Time Crime Center checked the school's monitors and verified that the lockdown was being followed and no students were in the hallways or other open areas.

The lockdown was lifted about 1:08 p.m.

“We want our families to know that while the uptick in school threats is not unique to Farmington, that we share how they feel,” Toboada said in an email. “Our families should know that the close working relationship between Farmington Municipal Schools and the Farmington Police Department continues to work to ensure the safety of our students and school staff. We appreciate the cooperation and professionalism of Farmington PD and everyone in the community who alerts us of these threats.”
