We have got to remove the emotion surrounding the new La Plata County land use code.
As a systems analyst for over 20 years, I was frequently tasked with writing a “straw man document” for others to react to. The purpose of a straw man is always very clear: provide a starting point for others to react to.
They are never written with the intent to be the end product. The first draft (straw man) of the LUC has already been strongly modified to reflect citizens’ concerns.
The second draft will be available in about 12 weeks, with additional comments welcomed for another 60-plus days after that.
This entire process will take a year, so there will be plenty of time to comment.
