EPA grants $30,000 to Durango nonprofit

Durango nonprofit Four Corners Office for Resource Efficiency has been awarded a $30,000 grant to help educate low-income residents about indoor health hazards.

U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet announced the grant Friday in a news release.

4CORE is one of two Colorado organizations to receive a grant from the Environmental Protection Agency.

Among health hazards found inside homes are toxins, pollutants and pesticides.

4CORE also strives to educate community members about how to properly dispose of chemical waste.

“Local groups like 4CORE are helping make our communities safer places through their education and outreach efforts,” Bennet said. “These resources will help 4CORE raise awareness in La Plata County about dangerous, but avoidable, home-health hazards.”

The EPA grants are given to organizations that promote environmental and public-health issues and have been issued since 1994.
