Errors cost Bayfield in first meeting with Alamosa

Wolverines go 2-1 at Salida tournament

Three errors in one inning would cost the Bayfield High School baseball team in a non-league meeting against league rival Alamosa.

After a 20-0 win in three innings against Platte Canyon in the second of three games at the Salida tournament, the Wolverines (5-1) got back to business against Alamosa (5-2) in the finale.

Noah Chamblee had a big game at the plate for BHS, as he was 4-for-4 with a double and four runs batted in. BHS was limited to seven hits in the game, though the Wolverines did draw seven more walks. Austin Twedt had the other RBI for BHS. He was 1-for-2 at the plate.

Lance Mazur also was 1-for-3 and scored a pair of runs for the Wolverines. He also was the pitcher of record in the loss for BHS. In five innings pitched, he struck out six. Of the eight runs that scored, three were earned. Caden Wood pitched an inning of relief and allowed one hit and struck out one.

Hayden Shawcroft had a home run and a double for Alamosa, as he finished with three RBIs and scored twice. Case Zimmerman was 1-for-3 with a doubles, two RBIs and a run. Kade Jones was 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored.

Jones was the winning pitcher in five innings of work. He allowed five runs – four earned – on five hits, six walks and he struck out three. Tyler Duarte earned the save.

BHS will host Alamosa for a league doubleheader June 5. Next for the Wolverines is a trip across the county at 3 p.m. Tuesday to face undefeated Class 4A Durango (5-0).
