I’m sorry, but I have completely lost confidence in our City Council. Councilors continue to move forward with the Next Step project that was someone’s bad idea, supposedly chosen from 700 responses to a misleading downtown-only survey, designed to get the answers they wanted.
Seventy-five businesses oppose it and city neighborhood residents were never asked. Incredibly, they are moving on despite having no idea what it will cost. Time for them all to go, with the exception of Gilda Yazzie who seems to be the only one with any common sense. Olivier Bosmans has proven to be nothing but a pain in the neck for everyone.
As if that’s not enough, they now want to charge neighborhood residents for parking passes, claiming that it’s because of community interest. BS. It is because Next Step will cause even more people to park in our neighborhoods.
Our house has been here since the 1880s, paying taxes the whole time and now they want us to pay for parking?
Virtually every issue Durango now faces is because of too many people. Yet, we continue to spend millions attracting more. Stop the insanity now!
More tourism does not improve our quality of life, as the Durango Business Improvement District asserts. It only causes prices, crime, congestion, pollution and city expenses to continue to rise.
Council should be focusing on the well-being of its current residents rather than attracting more. Vote them out.
