Motorists traveling over Coal Bank Pass on Wednesday should expect delays as crews attempt to retrieve a vehicle that went off U.S. Highway 550 on Sunday morning.
Colorado Department of Transportation issued a traffic alert Tuesday that said Animas Towing. Co. will pull the vehicle up an embankment around 9:30 a.m. about a mile north of the pass, near mile marker 58.
“The recovery crew will attempt to keep one lane open at all times, which means travelers will experience brief stops and one-lane alternating traffic guided by flagging personnel,” the release said.
“Motorists are urged to use caution in the area and are advised to watch for heavy equipment, operators and flaggers directing traffic.”
The Ford Fusion went off the road Sunday morning, temporarily closing the section of U.S. Highway 550 near Coal Bank Pass.
Colorado State Patrol Capt. Adam Driscoll said the crash involved one vehicle and one person who sustained minor injuries. An investigation on the cause of crash is ongoing, and no further details were released.
