The Durango Botanical Society got off to a powerful start with the Library Garden and the Crevice Gardens, but their new project, “Arboretum,” under construction on the north side of the library, is an expensive misadventure in horticultural boondogglery.
It is nothing remotely resembling a true arboretum, which represents several kinds of trees and shrubs in multiple groups. Its size is Lilliputian and its aims are depressingly low.
It is a giant step away from the stated goal of DBS and should not be supported by public money.
