Experience at SUCAP was traumatic

I decided to change my profession at the age of 49. My intention was to give back to humanity what I had learned through life experiences. My choice was to work for a Native American tribe in an industry catering to people. I was hoping to find spiritual values and people conducive to those values. I invested $35,000, two more years of college and set out to accomplish my goals.

When I was hired through SUCAP at Peaceful Spirit in Ignacio, I could not have been happier. The goals I had set for myself were manifesting.

My direct supervisor, to my dismay, was anything but spiritual. I watched him target staff and clients. He was underhanded and diabolical. He set me up and then chastised me in front of clients and staff. His main targets were gay male clients. His treatment of them was horrendous.

When I went to his supervisors, it resulted in his treatment becoming sneakier. The supervisors’ treatment of me became demeaning. The human resources department did nothing but treat me with contempt and prejudice. I felt targeted, very alone and scared.

Eventually his actions toward me became outrageous. He held me in a room against my will, screaming while I begged him to stop. I went to the police. I was terminated for reporting his behavior.

What I learned from my experience at SUCAP was the supervisors were/are on a power trip exercising control however they see fit. They did/do not care what happens to employees or clients as long as their agenda is met. I was a threat to their agenda because I spoke the truth.
