FARMINGTON – Farmington and New Mexico police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred Thursday night.
Police received a report of a domestic fight around 6 p.m. involving a man threatening people with a gun in the 2800 block of Rio Vista Court, a residential neighborhood in northeast Farmington, according to a news release issued Friday morning by the department.
Farmington police officers responded to the scene, with air support from the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office. The department’s helicopter had a visual of the situation and provided updates to officers on the ground, according to the release.
Once police were on the scene, officers reported being confronted with a weapon. One officer fired at the suspect when the weapon was pointed at officers, said Nicole Brown, spokeswoman with the Farmington Police Department.
The man with the gun, identified by police Friday afternoon as Norbert Beyet, 58, died on scene. No officers reported injuries and a revolver was recovered from the scene, according to Brown.
New Mexico State Police, along with Farmington detectives and San Juan County detectives, are investigating the shooting.
