FARMINGTON – Farmington police are searching for a suspect in a kidnapping and sexual assault case, the department announced Tuesday afternoon.
A warrant has been issued for Waylon Johnson, 44, of Farmington on suspicion of kidnapping, criminal sexual penetration and aggravated battery after an incident early Tuesday, according to the department’s news release.
Police officers were called to a house on South Bowen Avenue around 6:53 a.m. for a report of fighting. When officers arrived on scene, they were told a man had kidnapped, battered and sexually assaulted a woman. The man was said to be in the home, armed with a bat, according to the department.
Police negotiators tried to contact the man unsuccessfully, according to the report. After receiving an arrest warrant, SWAT and K-9 officers eventually entered the home, but the man was already gone.
The man was later identified as Johnson, said Nicole Brown, spokeswoman for the Farmington Police Department.
Anyone with information about the incident or Johnson’s whereabouts is asked to call Farmington police dispatch at (505) 334-6622 or San Juan County Crime Stoppers at (505) 334-TIPS.
