The Farmington Strike Zone is teaming up with Pine River Youth Baseball to host a pre-season Professional Baseball Camp to help all players get prepared for their upcoming seasons.
The camp is from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 7 at Joe Stephenson Park in Bayfield.
Coaches teaching at the camp will be the Strike Zone's Adam Morrissey, who played for the Cubs, Athletics, Rangers and Angels for 10 years; Shilo McCall of the San Francisco Giants; Dom Moreno of Howard University, Texas Tech and the Detroit Tigers; Damion Lovato of the University of New Mexico, Kansas State and Wayland Baptist; and Justin Solomon, a New Mexico state champion from Piedra Vista High School who has beat cancer twice.
This will be a full skills camp, concluding with a motivational talk from Solomon about his journey and his book, The Tenth Inning.
"We have a lot of Strike Zone 13U athletes from Bayfield and Ignacio, so we are thrilled to host this event in Bayfield," said Kennie Monger, a board member for Pine River Little League. "This is an excellent opportunity for local players to experience the best coaching the area."
The cost for the camp is $75. To register for the camp, contact Strike Zone at (505) 326-7874, or registration is available on Saturday morning.
After the camp, the Strike Zone 13U players will scrimmage at 1 p.m., also at the park.
"These kids are the best 12 and 13-year-old players in the Four Corners, from Farmington, Aztec, Cortez, Bayfield and Ignacio, so this is a chance for baseball fans to come view the up-and-coming players," Monger said.
