FBI sought Russia aid in probe

WASHINGTON – The FBI’s requests for additional information about one of the Boston Marathon bombing suspects were declined by Russian authorities two years prior to the attack, according to an internal review of the government’s response to the fatal bombings.

In the aftermath of the attack, the then-Boston police commissioner told a congressional panel that he was never alerted to the initial concerns raised about bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev’s radical leanings and intention to travel to Russia two years prior to the attack despite Boston’s close association with the task force investigating the bombings.
